How I found the wonderful White Villas on the Peloponnese in Greece and why you should definitely spend a vacation there …

Our children had had Percy Jackson fever since the autumn holidays and therefore wanted to go to Olympia, the former seat of the gods. We had decided to grant them this wish in the next summer vacation. So our holiday accommodation should be in the northwest of the Peloponnese, not too far away from the ruins of this temple complex.

In my search I came across the White Villas *. Three wonderful holiday homes with a shared pool, a tennis court and all of this just a few steps from the sea. Our boys’ statement: ‘That would be paradise if we were on vacation there.’

We spent our vacation in this paradise in the Peloponnese and it was just wonderful! Here is more about this wonderful hideaway:

White Villas location

The White Villas are located in the northwest of the Peloponnese, about 180 miles and 3 1/4 hours by car from Athens. There are three airports in the vicinity: Araxos Airport is approx. 35 miles; the airports of Zakynthos (approx. 47 miles) and Kefalonia (approx. 75 miles) are located on the offshore islands, so that you still have to take the ferry.
The next place is Dounaika, a small sleepy village with two restaurants, three mini markets, a butcher and a very good baker. From Dounaika you drive approx. 1.2 miles through melon fields and olive groves towards the coast. The second half of it on a gravel road, as we only knew it from Formentera – the journey is definitely worth it!
According to current information from the hosts, this road should be improved next year.

White Villas – the different holiday homes

As already described, the White Villas are an area with three holiday homes for 2 to 6 people – the Pool Villa (with its own small pool),

the Garden Villa and the Beach Villa. We chose the Beach Villa because it is closest to the pool and the beach.

Before we arrived we received two nice emails from the landlady in which we got all the information about the house and were then warmly welcomed on site by the manager Nikos.

White Villas – Facilities

Our house had two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom,

and three terraces.

Everything is very nice, bright and modern. We particularly liked the wonderful ceiling construction, which makes the whole house even lighter, more beautiful and more unusual.

In the living room and bedrooms, instead of windows, there are large sliding doors with a first-class fly screen sliding element, so that you always have fresh air in the house without worrying about insects. In addition, all sliding doors are fitted with shutters – perfect sun protection. Only a fixed window element in one of the bedrooms and the bathroom windows have no shutters.

In addition to the excellent equipment (also in the kitchen) there is a safe in one of the bedrooms and an alarm system. However, we hadn’t turned it on once during our vacation.

The entire area of the White Villas is fenced. With the car you drive through a large automatic gate and you can park directly in front of your villa.
Each villa has two mountain bikes so that you can ride your bike to the bakery or supermarket in the morning. In spring or autumn you can definitely go on great mountain bike tours – in summer it was definitely too hot for that!

Use of the tennis court is free. There is also a small playground and a table tennis table. Two canoes and a surfboard are available for fun on the beach.

White Villas – Pool and Beach

The pool is cleaned every morning and the water quality is checked. After asking Nikos about it on the first day, he raised me with it throughout the vacation and got a daily report on the water quality. 🙂

You get to the sea through an always locked door at the back of the property (for which you will of course receive a key). From here you can reach the beach in about 2 minutes, where a parasol with four loungers and a chair is available for each villa – free of charge, of course.

There are now six parasols, each with two loungers.

White Villas – Restaurants

Diagonally above the loungers is the ‘Belvedere’ beach restaurant, which is run by (another) Nikos and his family. Nikos is very friendly and the food is always absolutely fresh and simply wonderful.

Not to mention the view of the sea and the sunsets!

After a 10-minute walk on the beach, past delightful Greek holiday homes,

you will reach two more restaurants. We ate in both once. We liked it, but not as good as in the Belvedere.

There is also a restaurant on the market square in Dounaika. However, since we didn’t want to drive to the restaurant in the evening – unless we were in a completely different place – we didn’t eat here. But it looked very nice.

White Villas – Excursions

Of course we went to Olympia during our vacation and visited the ruins of the temples at almost 40 degrees in the shade.

A trip to Katakolo is highly recommended. A beautiful little port town with a few shops and restaurants.

Kourouta, a small town right on the beach, is about a 15-minute drive away. There are many restaurants and bars, some of them very nice, and a small fairground for the children. Spending an evening here was very nice, but otherwise the beach with the many loungers was definitely too full for us.

Since we spent three nights in Athens after our vacation in the Peloponnese, pure relaxation was the focus for us in the White Villas.
About the above-mentioned destinations and worthwhile stops on the way to Athens I report in the blog post ‘Holidays in Greece – 6 wonderful destinations in the Peloponnese’.

White Villas – my summary

  • Three wonderful, first-class equipped holiday homes on a beautiful property with pool, well-kept tennis court and a small playground.
  • The manager is very nice and happy to help with any questions.
  • The houses are cleaned regularly and the towels and bed linen are changed.
  • The beach can be reached in one or two minutes and there is a delicious restaurant with a fantastic sea view in the immediate vicinity.
  • We particularly liked that the beach was absolutely empty – apart from a few loungers at the Belvedere and at the two other restaurants, there is hardly any tourism here.

For us the White Villas were a little paradise for a wonderful family vacation in Greece!
